Hello all! Yes it has been quite a while since I have been here. I have begun working Retail on top of teaching, meaning I am not finishing until late at night. I have had a very busy and full few weeks.
The big dump in Omeo. Putting on chains is not on top of my favourite things to do, let alone putting them on to get out of the drive way... 60 km (2 hours) later arrive an hour late for work after breaking two chains, shattering two wheel arches, and destroying the windscreen water container! The poor car has copped the worst. On our drive up the mountain, we passed the horses taking part in the search for three killed in the terrible plane crash. I am not one to dwell on the the "Should have"s and "Could have"s, but why the pilot didn't land in Wang as directed, is beyond me. The working environment was extremely dark and gloomy that weekend, I didn't know the couple or the pilot personally, but I felt deeply for their family members and felt the loss to the community.
Despite the dramas, we had some great powder asking to be found! I have been really living for my Sundays (only days off), hanging out with Donny and getting a free ride in.
Sunday 17th July, my best day on snow for a very long time. There wasn't a whole lot of pow pow, but Donny shared with me his secret spots, and boy, did I sleep well that night.. I'm am no longer afraid of trees, well not nearly as much!
It was lovely having Suzi, Steve and Ange stay last week. I wasn't lonely during the week, and I had forgotten how nice it was to share dinners and house chores with others!! Thanks guys, I was very grateful to have you around.
As we have had Gale force winds since Saturday night, the idea of hot chocolate and a book has enticed me a whole lot more than free riding this week! Rain and wind at the extremes.. today we only had Village chair and Summit training (Pommer) open due to the winds. The only sport worth doing in this stuff is sleeping if you ask me!
Donny and I cross country skiied from Dinner Plain to Wire Plain Nordic Hut on Sunday (10 km). It was his first time on XC skis, and if you ask me he was a natural... wanted to get straight into the skating stuff within the first km. Although we do need to work on the old stopping mechanism as the down hills wet the back-side slightly.
I have been Phone-less for about a week, so I am very sorry to Mel and Anders for the confusion about last weekend, and also anyone else who did try to call last week.. the line is back in action, although I am not home until after 7 - 7:30 at night if you want to call.
I hope everyone is well and happy..
