Cathedral Range State Park

Sugarloaf Ridge

This weekends adventure was rather wet but a lot of fun. Donny and I arrived at the Jawbones car park at about 7:00pm Friday with a 45 min hike ahead of us. With our head torches and rather large hiking packs we set off up what was a rather wet, not to mention steep climb! The rain didn't stop for us, but eased while we set up camp, and began to really pelt down once we were inside preparing dinner. We wern't alone at the camp site, two young guys had only beat us up by about 20 minutes, we had dinner in the rain sitting around the small fire that they had built. Conversation lead us to school talk, turns out I taught a few of their good mates up at the snow this year.. they were actually my favourite school group for the whole season! It's a small world. The rain only got heavier and drove us into the tent for sleep. The sound of the rain lulled Donny to sleep within three minutes, whilst I was kept awake by the thunder and lightning!

The rain eased in the morning to drizzle. We walked up to the sugarloaf peak in the morning along the slippery rocks. Thank goodness we left the hiking packs at camp, for the track was a little steep and hairy in parts!

Even though it rain for the majority of the weekend, it was beautiful. The Lyrebirds were very funny to listen to and there were so many. We even saw a male chasing a female with his feathers up, making computer game noises! I thought that was helarious. The smells were extra strong, and the little falls made by run off sliding down and over rocks were really pretty.

We spent Saturday evening out at Eildon partying into the night, once again we camped in the rain!! Sunday was also very touristy, having lunch with mum and her friends at Marysville on our way home. Stevensons Falls were roaring!

It was a great weekend.
